Sun-dried tomatoes are a variety of tomato called Roma, characterized by their elongated shape and dense texture. They are prepared by dehydrating them under the sun for approximately 6-7 days. During this process, the tomatoes lose a significant amount of their water content, resulting in a considerable reduction in weight—about 93-94%—from 16 kilograms of fresh tomatoes, only 1 kilogram of sun-dried tomatoes are produced.
Once dried, sun-dried tomatoes become sweet, tangy, and chewy, offering a concentrated burst of flavor. They are often used as a garnish in various dishes such as salads and pasta, adding depth and richness to the flavor profile. Their intense taste and chewy texture make them a popular ingredient in Mediterranean cuisine and beyond.
